Thoughts on M&P 15-22 Mags? Looking for Feedback!

Seeking Input on M&P 15-22 Magazines

I’ve been diving into the world of outdoor shooting, specifically with my Smith & Wesson M&P15-22. As I gear up for some range time, I want to make sure I’m fully equipped, and that includes selecting the right magazines.

Key Points to Consider:

  • Compatibility: Are all M&P 15-22 magazines created equal? I’ve seen some options that claim they work with other .22 rifles, but I want to stick to something that will ensure optimal performance with my M&P.

  • Capacity Concerns: I’m wondering what the regulations for magazine capacities are in different states. Is there a specific size I should stick with to avoid any legal issues?

  • Recommended Brands: There are a ton of aftermarket brands available, but which ones have proven reliable? I aim to avoid jams and misfeeds.

  • User Reviews: If you’ve used certain brands or types of magazines, I’d love to hear your experience. What worked well, and what didn’t?

Why It Matters

Having the right magazines can make or break your shooting experience. I’ve heard horror stories of unreliable mags causing frustration at the range, and I’d like to prevent that.

So, if you have any tips, experiences, or recommendations regarding M&P 15-22 magazines, please share! Your feedback could really help out in making my choice easier and my next shooting session much more enjoyable.

I’ve been using the OEM M&P 15-22 magazines and I find them to be quite reliable. I’ve put a few hundred rounds through them without any major issues.

I also had good luck with the ProMag ones. They are less expensive and have been pretty reliable for me, though I’ve heard mixed reviews.

For me, the Black Dog magazines have been fantastic. The feeding is flawless and they hold a good amount.

I’ve been hesitant to try the Black Dog mags due to their price. Are they really worth it in the long run?

Absolutely, austinpalmer! The durability and reliability of those magazines make them worth every dime. Plus, they have a good warranty.

I’ve had a few feeding issues with the ProMag magazines, though some people swear by them. Makes me wonder if I got a bad batch.

Same experience here. They can be hit or miss, which is disappointing because they are reasonably priced.

I haven’t tried Black Dog or ProMag yet. I’ll probably stick with the OEMs until I can read more reviews. Reliability is my priority.

That makes sense, johnwilson. The OEMs are solid choices for sure! You can’t go wrong starting there.

On a humorous note, I once loaded a magazine backwards on accident. Let’s just say that was a learning experience! Anyone else done that?

I’ve had great success with my M&P 15-22 mags. Regular cleaning is key! I usually clean them with a soft brush and some CLP to keep everything running smoothly.

Absolutely! I also recommend storing them in a cool, dry place to prevent corrosion. A gun safe works well for that.

Good points on cleaning. I tend to disassemble and clean them after every range session. Keeps them in top shape!

That’s a great habit! How do you store them after cleaning?

I store mine in individual pouches to avoid scratches. Anyone have tips on lubricating the follower without causing jams?

I usually just apply a small amount of oil to the follower, but be careful not to overdo it! A little goes a long way.

Exactly! I once put too much oil on mine, and it caused a jam during a competition – not fun!

I haven’t experienced jams with mine, but I also clean them often. Maybe I’m just lucky? :joy:

Haha! Sometimes it’s just all about maintaining your gear. Have any of you tried aftermarket magazines?
