Thoughts on the Big Agnes Anvil Horn 15° Sleeping Bag?

I’ve been researching the Big Agnes Anvil Horn 15° sleeping bag for my upcoming backpacking trip, and I’d love to get some feedback from those who have experience with it. Here are a few key points I’ve come across:

Key Features:

  • Temperature Rating: Designed for 15° F, perfect for colder nights.
  • Weight: How does it compare to other bags you’ve used in terms of weight?
  • Packability: Does it fit well in your backpack?

Questions:

  • Warmth: Experiences in chilly conditions?
  • Comfort: Any thoughts on the bag’s materials and its comfort level?
  • Comparisons: How does it stack up against other sleeping bags in the same range?

Closing:

I’m really interested in finding out if this bag lives up to the reviews. Any insights would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I’ve had the Big Agnes Anvil Horn 15° for a couple of months now and I’ve been pretty impressed with how it retains heat. I’ve used it in temperatures down to 20° F, and I stayed warm all night even when it got really chilly outside.

That’s great to hear! I’m curious, how does it perform in wet conditions? I’ve read mixed reviews about its insulation when damp.

I’ve tested it in rain and snow, and it held up pretty well! The water-resistant shell definitely adds an extra layer of security. It’s not completely waterproof, but I was happy with the performance overall.

I’ve been using the Anvil Horn for winter camping, and it has kept me toasty warm! Compared to my last bag, which that didn’t hold heat, the Anvil is a game changer for me.

What bag were you using before the Anvil Horn? I’m looking for comparisons on warmth.

I used to have an old REI sleeping bag that was rated for the same temperature. It couldn’t compete with the Anvil in terms of warmth and comfort. The Anvil is just so much cozier!

I agree with onealfrank! I’ve also shifted from an REI bag to the Anvil Horn and I barely feel cold at all now. Great insulation!

I’m on the fence about this bag. I really want to like it, but I’ve read some reviews stating it compresses quickly. Is that true?

I’ve noticed it does compress a bit, but it’s still manageable. The warmth-to-weight ratio is excellent, so I think it’s worth it!

In my experience, it holds warmth like a champ, but I do agree about the compression. My pack is heavier now, but I’m sleeping so much better!

Haha, right? A good night’s sleep is worth any extra weight! Plus, I could use some extra insulation during cold nights.

Exactly, greg58! I’d say the comfort is just brilliant with the Anvil Horn, and warmth-wise, I haven’t felt this good in my sleeping bag in ages.

I’m still curious about how it stacks against others on the market. Anyone have insight comparing it to other brands, say, Marmot or Thermarest?

That’s awesome to hear! How is the zipper functionality? I’ve heard mixed reviews.

The zipper on mine has been flawless! No snagging, and it glides smoothly. I’m 5’10", and I feel like I can move around comfortably without feeling restricted.

That’s reassuring! How about the overall design? Does it feel durable?

Absolutely, the fabric feels very durable. I’ve taken it on several trips, and it has held up nicely against some rough conditions. Plus, it packs down well for hiking!

I’m curious too about the fit. Some sleeping bags are snug, while others are too loose. What’s your experience with the Anvil Horn?
