I’ve tried a lot of different ammo for elk hunting, and the ELD-X is particularly effective with both accuracy and knockdown power. Any thoughts on how it stacks against Weatherby’s options?
Weatherby’s ammo is also very effective, but I find it can be less consistent across different temps. ELD-X seems more reliable for varying weather conditions. What kind of distances are people shooting at?
I typically shoot at around 300-400 yards, and the ELD-X performs great within that range. Anyone here felt comfortable pushing it further?
I pushed it to 500 a couple of times and had good luck! It definitely opens the range for elk hunting, that’s for sure.
I find the ELD-X to be a reliable option, especially when I can roll my own loads. I’ve been thinking of experimenting with some other bullet types for comparison. Has anyone tried the Hornady GMX?
I tried the GMX once, but I prefer the performance of the ELD-X for elk. The GMX feels more suited for thinner-skinned game. Anyone feel differently?
That’s a solid point. The ELD-X definitely gives that extra edge for penetrating heavier hide of elk. It makes a noticeable difference.
