I’m getting back into shotgun shooting and I recently picked up some Winchester Super Field (WSF) powder for reloading. I want to make sure I’m using it correctly, especially since I’ll be participating in some trap shooting events soon.
I’ve read a few posts online, but the information seems a bit scattered. I’m looking for:
Specific load recipes for trap loads using WSF
Recommended shot weights and sizes
Any tips on adjusting loads for different weather conditions
I plan to use 12-gauge shells primarily, so if anyone has experience with that or knows of any good resources, I’d really appreciate your input.
Questions:
What’s the typical starting load with WSF for light target loads?
Are there any common mistakes to avoid when using this powder?
Do you have a favorite load recipe?
I know safety is a big concern as well, so if anyone has any tips on working with this powder safely, that would be great too! Looking forward to hearing from you all.
I’m glad you’re seeking help! For Winchester WSF, I’ve had great success with 1 oz. to 1 1/8 oz. loads. A charge of around 24.5 gr for 1 oz shells works well for trap shooting.
I’ve been using Winchester WSF for my trap shooting for a while now, and it definitely offers a nice balance of speed and recoil. It’s great for target shooting! Anyone else notice its consistency?
Absolutely! In my experience, WSF performs exceptionally well in competition settings. I’ve noticed my scores improve with it. It’s very reliable under pressure.
