Looking for Recommendations: Thermal Clip-ons for LPVOs

I’ve been getting into night hunting lately and I’m curious about thermal clip-on devices that can be paired with Low Power Variable Optics (LPVOs). There are so many options out there, and I want to make sure I’m choosing the right one that fits my needs and budget.

What I’m Looking For

I’m especially interested in:

  • Compatibility: Which thermal clips work well with popular LPVO models?
  • Performance: How do different brands stack up in low-light conditions?
  • Price Points: What are the average costs for good quality thermal clip-ons?
  • User Experiences: I’d love to hear about your experiences with specific products. What worked for you, and what didn’t?

Additional Considerations

I also want to factor in:

  • Ease of Use: How intuitive is the setup process?
  • Weight: Will it add a significant amount of weight to my setup?
  • Durability: How well do they hold up in rugged outdoor situations?

If anyone has suggestions or personal experiences to share, it would be hugely appreciated. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

Thanks in advance for any help!

I’m looking into thermal clip-ons for my LPVO as well! One key factor to consider is compatibility with your current optic. What LPVO are you using?

I’m using a Vortex Razor HD. I’ve heard some thermal clip-ons don’t work well with it. Any suggestions?

You’ll want to look for clip-ons with a good eyepiece diameter to ensure proper alignment. I recommend the ATN Thor 4; it’s versatile and compatible with most LPVOs.

Good call! I’ve heard ATN has a solid reputation. How does the magnification hold up?

Magnification can be tricky. The Thor 4 boasts up to 8x but might lose some clarity beyond 4x. What’s your preference in terms of range?

I’m looking for something that works well at 100-300 yards. Would a higher magnification still be viable for thermal at that range?

Thermal optics are usually more effective at lower magnifications. Consider testing before you buy to see the clarity at your desired range.

Absolutely! I’d also emphasize that mounting options can greatly affect usability. What are your mounting preferences?

Quick-release mounts are a game changer! I’ve used them on my LPVO setup and they improve flexibility when quickly switching between thermal and standard optics.

But sometimes quick-release mounts can add extra weight. It’s a balancing act between convenience and bulk, right?

True! It can feel like you’re lifting weights at the range, haha! Still, comfort and function should take priority over a few extra ounces.

Very true! I’m eager to hear if anyone has had a good experience with a specific model they could recommend.

I’m really liking the ATN Thor 4 thermal clip-on. The image quality is superb and it pairs well with my LPVO. Definitely worth a look!

I’ve heard mixed reviews about the battery life on the Thor 4, though. How does it hold up during extended use?

I own the Pulsar Forward F455 and it’s a game changer! The image resolution is excellent, and it’s relatively easy to mount on my scope.

Does the Pulsar allow for quick detach? I often switch between optics.

The FLIR ThermoSight is also worth checking out. It’s not the lightest but offers great clarity in low-light situations.

I appreciate that feedback! Is it user-friendly for beginners?

For ease of use, I recommend the Sig Sauer Echo 3. It’s very straightforward and provides solid performance. Perfect for newcomers!
