Seeking Help and Advice on Remington Model 4 .30-06

I’m considering adding the Remington Model 4 chambered in .30-06 to my hunting arsenal, and I’d love to hear from others who might have experience with this rifle. Here are a few specific things I’m curious about:

Performance and Accuracy

  • How does the Remington Model 4 perform in terms of accuracy?
  • Any thoughts on its effective range for hunting deer or elk?

Best Ammo Choices

  • What are your recommendations for ammunition? I’m particularly interested in any specific brands or types that have worked well for you.

Maintenance and Care

  • How easy is it to clean and maintain this rifle? Any special tools or procedures I should be aware of?

Comparison with Other Models

  • If you have experience with both the Remington Model 4 and other rifles in the same category (like the Model 700 or similar), how do they stack up against each other?

Pricing and Value

  • What’s a fair price for a used Remington Model 4 in good condition? Any tips on what to look for when purchasing one?

Personal Experiences

  • I’d appreciate any personal stories or experiences you might have had while using the Model 4 in the field. What did you like, and what would you change?

Your insights would be invaluable, as I want to make an informed decision before my next hunting season. Thanks in advance for your help!

I have a Remington Model 4 in .30-06 and regular maintenance is key! Always clean your barrel after each use with a good gun cleaning solvent, like Hoppe’s No. 9. A clean barrel ensures better accuracy.

Definitely agree! After cleaning, I like to run a thin layer of gun oil through the action to prevent rust. It’s simple but effective.

That’s a great idea! Anyone have suggestions for cleaning patches that work well with the Model 4?

Good point, John! I also recommend using a bore snake for quick clean-ups in the field. It makes life so much easier when you can give your barrel a quick once-over.

I personally use Pro-Shot cleaning patches, they’re excellent and fit perfectly. Always make sure to pin down the right caliber!

It’s also important to check the screws and mounting frequently. A loose scope can ruin your day in the field—or on the range, for that matter!

Exactly! I’ve had that happen, I nearly missed a shot because of it. Always check it before heading out.

For lubrication, I recommend using CLP cleaner. It’s great for both cleaning and maintaining your firearm’s internal parts without buildup.

I stick with my old-school way: just a good old rag and gun oil. Not sure about the newer options, but they seem a bit complicated!

Haha, you sound like my grandpa! But hey, whatever works!

Anyone ever had issues with the extractor? Mine acts up occasionally. Looking for advice on that!

I’ve heard that cleaning the extractor and ensuring it’s free of debris can often resolve those issues. Have you tried that?

I will definitely try that! Thanks for the tips!

It’s interesting how little maintenance can make such a big difference. A well-cared-for rifle will last a lifetime!

So true! I fully believe keeping your gear in shape does wonders for performance.

I’ve had great success using Federal Premium 168-grain Fusion ammo with my Remington Model 4. It’s incredibly consistent and provides excellent expansion. Highly recommend it for hunting!

I’ve had some mixed results with Fusion. The Hornady American Whitetail 150-grain worked better for me. It was very accurate in my rifle.

I’ve used both the Fusion and Hornady ammo. They all shoot great, but don’t forget about Nosler partitions if you want superior performance on larger game!

That’s a good point! Nosler partitions are legendary for their stopping power. What weight do you recommend?
