Looking for Feedback on 70 gr Barnes TSX Performance in the Field

Introduction

I’m diving into using the 70 gr Barnes TSX bullets for hunting and would love to gather some insights. From what I’ve heard, the Barnes Triple-Shock X (TSX) line is renowned for its performance and effectiveness, especially in the field. But every bit of advice helps to optimize my hunting experience!

Questions for the Community

  • What’s been your experience with the 70 gr TSX when hunting deer or antelope? How did it perform in terms of expansion and penetration?
  • Have you tried different ammunition loads? Which ones worked best for you?
  • Do you have any tips for reloading these bullets? Any specific techniques or powder types that yield better results?

Why I’m Asking

I’m particularly looking to enhance my effectiveness during the hunting season. I’ve heard raving reviews about the TSX, especially regarding its ability to retain weight and penetrate deeply without fragmenting. However, experiencing it first-hand seems invaluable. It’d be awesome to learn from your successes or even your challenges with these bullets!

Closing Thoughts

I appreciate any insights or experiences you all can share. Let’s help each other become better hunters and make the most of our time outdoors.

I’ve had great results with the 70 gr Barnes TSX in my .223 Rem. Super accurate and it really expands on impact. Definitely a keeper!

I agree! I use it in my 6.8 SPC and the terminal performance is impressive. It’s like nothing I’ve seen before.

I’m curious about the difference in performance when fired from a handgun versus a rifle. Has anyone tested the TSX in a .357 Magnum?

I’ve used the TSX in my .44 Magnum and it performed excellently! Expanded beautifully on game, very reliable.

I find it fascinating how different calibers can yield such varying results. Has anyone chronographed their loads?

Yes! I measured around 3,000 fps with my .223. It’s an absolute laser beam!

Just got some 70 gr TSX for my .243. Can’t wait to see how it performs. Any tips for zeroing or preferred distances for accuracy?

I typically zero at 100 yards. They’re pretty flat-shooting, so you should be good up to 300 without adjusting too much.

That’s good to know! Do you think it’s worth testing past that distance?

Definitely! I’ve had good results at 400 yards too. Just watch for wind drift.

You guys are making me want to try the TSX in my hunting loads for deer this season!

You won’t regret it! I dropped a deer instantly last fall with one shot using it.

Haha! Instant one-shot kills are always the best kind of story, right? How did it perform on internal damage?

The internal damage was extensive! It really lived up to the hype; I could see the effectiveness immediately.

I’ve heard some people say the TSX might not be as explosive as lead options. What’s been your experience?

I thought the same but was pleasantly surprised by its expansion and penetration. It’s different, but effective in its own way!

I’ve had great success with the 70 gr Barnes TSX using Reloder 7 powder. It gives me consistent velocity and excellent accuracy. Have you tried it?

I second that! I also use CCI 450 primers for a faster ignition. Makes a noticeable difference!

Make sure to check your seating depth! I’ve found that 2.250 inches works best for my setup, leading to tight groups at the range.
