Looking for 7 Rem Mag Load Data Tips!

I’m getting into reloading for my 7mm Remington Magnum and could really use some guidance on load data. I’ve been researching a bit, but the variety of bullets and powders out there makes it pretty overwhelming.

Here are a few specific areas where I’m seeking advice:

  • Preferred Bullets: What are the most accurate bullets you’ve used with the 7 Rem Mag?
  • Powder Choices: Which powders do you find work best for different applications, such as hunting vs. target shooting?
  • Load Recipes: If you have any specific load recipes, I’d love to hear them.
  • Performance Insights: What kind of performance have you achieved with your loads in the field? Any notable experiences while hunting?

I’d appreciate any insights or personal experiences you can share. Looking to optimize my setup for accuracy and overall performance. Thanks in advance!

I’ve found that 140 grains work great for deer and elk. It’s a good balance of velocity and energy delivery!

I totally agree! I prefer 160 grains for larger game. It provides better penetration and knockdown power.

Does anyone have experience with lighter bullets, like 120 grains? I’m curious about their performance on smaller game.

120 grains are fantastic for varmints! They offer high velocity and minimal recoil, making for an excellent choice for small game hunting.

Great point! In terms of recoil, what lighter loads do you guys recommend for ease of shooting?

For ease of shooting, I really like the 130-grain loads. They maintain the energy while being manageable for beginners.

Can’t go wrong with either 140 or 160 grains for the 7 Rem Mag! Just remember to match your bullet choice with your rifle’s twist rate for best accuracy.

Absolutely! And don’t forget about the importance of handloading for precision. It really can make a difference in performance.

Lighter loads definitely help, but let’s not forget that velocity is key for the 7 Rem Mag, too!

I’ve also noticed some preference differences based on the region you hunt in. What does everyone think about bullet performance differences in various climates?

That’s an interesting point! I’ve definitely seen performance vary with temp and humidity, especially when hunting in the mountains!

When in doubt, just remember: if the bullet fits, it shoots! (And maybe laugh while reloading).

Sounds like we have a lot of good tips here! Anyone had any bad experiences with specific loads? Share so we can learn before shooting!

I recommend trying H1000 or Retumbo powders for the 7 Rem Mag. They offer great velocity and accuracy. My go-to load is 70 grains of H1000 with a 162 grain bullet.

I’m with you on H1000! I’ve had excellent results using it with the 160 grain Accubond bullet. Consistent tight groups.

If you’re looking for something a bit different, give IMR 7828 a shot. It’s been reliable for me, especially with heavier bullets.

I’ve heard good things about IMR 7828 too! What’s your optimal grain with it?

I’m using 75 grains of IMR 7828 with a 175 grain bullet. It’s performed decently for my long-range outings.

Has anyone experimented with the new powders like Alliant Reloder 26? I’ve read it helps with velocity and can burn cleaner.
