How's the Performance of the M&P Shield EZ 9mm in the Field?

Thanks for the suggestions! Do you think using heavier grains like 147gr might affect the EZ’s performance?

Heavier grains can help with recoil management and accuracy, but might not expand properly in defensive scenarios. I’d stick to the lighter ones for self-defense.

I’ve used various brands but for self-defense, the Speer Gold Dot 124gr has worked wonders for me. Anyone else tried them?

Yup, those Gold Dots are reliable! I also had great results with the Hornady Critical Defense 115gr.

I’ve been using Remington UMC for practice and haven’t had any failures. Just wish I could find it in stock more often!

I had some issues with UMC in my previous pistol. Just be cautious and test it first in your Shield EZ.

Checking out all these options is overwhelming! What about the ammo for shooting competitions? Anyone have suggestions?

For competitions, I recommend sticking with lighter loads for quicker follow-up shots. Something like the Fiocchi 115gr works well for both speed and accuracy.

Speaking of follow-up shots, I always emphasize practicing with the actual ammo you plan to carry. It’s critical for muscle memory!

Exactly! Mixing up practice ammo and defensive ammo can throw you off. Stick to what you trust.

Anyone else experiencing a difference in performance when using +P ammo? It’s kind of a mixed bag with my Shield.

Yeah, I’ve noticed a bit of a kick with +P compared to standard rounds. It can be a trade-off between power and comfort.

I think part of the issue with +P is just personal preference. I’ve heard some folks joke about it being a mini cannon!

I’ve had a lot of success with my M&P Shield EZ 9mm using aftermarket sights. The fiber optic sights really improved my accuracy in the field!

That’s great to hear! Do you have a specific brand of fiber optic sights you would recommend?

I’m using TruGlo sights, and they’ve been fantastic. Super bright and easy to acquire targets under various lighting conditions.

Good choice, Angela! What about trigger modifications? I’ve heard mixed reviews.

Trigger upgrades can be fantastic! I went with a Flat Trigger from Apex Tactical and found it made a big difference in my follow-up shots.

I did some research but was hesitant about the installation. Was it easy to do yourself, LRodgers?

It was straightforward! Just follow the instructions carefully. If you can change a light bulb, you can do this mod! Get a good punch set.
