Franchi Affinity 3 or Benelli M2: Which One Should I Choose?

I’m currently in the market for a new shotgun and find myself torn between the Franchi Affinity 3 and the Benelli M2. I’ve done some research, but I would love to hear from others who have experience with either—or both—of these models.

Key Factors I’m Considering:

  1. Recoil Mechanism: I’ve read that the Benelli M2 has a fantastic inertia-driven system, but how does that compare to the Affinity 3’s gas system in terms of felt recoil? Is one easier on the shoulder during extended shooting sessions?
  2. Ease of Handling: How user-friendly are these shotguns? I’ve handled both in stores, but what about their actual performance in the field? Which one feels lighter and more intuitive during shooting?
  3. Customizations: I’m interested in the aftermarket accessories available for both shotguns. How flexible is each model for upgrades and personal modifications?
  4. Price Considerations: The Affinity 3 is generally more affordable, but does the Benelli M2 justify its higher price tag with better performance or durability in the long run?
  5. Recommendations: What has been your experience with either gun? If you could choose only one for hunting or shooting sports, which would it be and why?

Any feedback would be appreciated as I want to make an informed choice that suits my needs. Thanks in advance for your insights!

I’ve owned both the Franchi Affinity 3 and the Benelli M2. While both are reliable, the Affinity 3 has a lighter feel which benefits upland game hunting, especially in tough conditions. The M2, however, is a workhorse in waterfowl situations. You can’t go wrong with either!

That’s interesting! How do you find the recoil on the Affinity 3 compared to the M2? I’ve heard the M2 can be quite harsh on the shoulder during a longer day of shooting.

The Benelli M2 has proven itself time and again in various conditions, particularly in muddy or wet environments. I’ve used it for duck hunting, and I never had a failure to cycle. The Franchi is great too, but I tend to trust the M2 more in the field.

That’s a solid point! Have you tried clay shooting with either of them? I’m curious how they perform at the range.

I’ve found that the Franchi Affinity 3 has a very smooth swing for clay shooting, and it seems to reduce recoil effectively. It’s almost surprising how well it performs for its price point, making it a viable option for both new and seasoned shooters alike.

I think reliability is key in any shotgun. The M2 offers elite reliability in wet conditions, but the Affinity 3 is no slouch. It might not be as robust, but I’ve had zero issues in upland game hunting scenarios.

That’s encouraging! I’m leaning towards the Affinity 3 for the weight savings, but do you think it could hold up just as well in waterfowl hunting?

I think both guns have their merits. If you’re going to be in heavy rain or mud, I’d personally take the M2. But for upland hunting, the Affinity 3 feels lighter and easier to carry around all day—a real plus!

Such a tough choice! If only shotguns could also be versatile! Does anyone have experience with changing chokes? How does that affect performance for both models?

Changing chokes is super easy on both models! The M2 allows for quick changes without tools, which is a big advantage for clay shooting. The Franchi is similar, but I feel the M2 gives a bit more consistent shot spread when adjusted correctly.

All valid points! If I’m being reflective, I’d say durability is crucial when spending this much. The M2 feels like it’s built to last a lifetime, while the Affinity 3 might need more care over the years.

I definitely agree! Kind of like the difference between full-bodied red wine and a light beer! Each has its place, but can we really expect a lightweight to endure as well as a heavyweight?

Haha, great analogy! It’s true—both guns have their strengths depending on the context. Ultimately, it might just come down to personal choice and what feels right in your hands! Cheers to making the right decision!

I’ve been looking into customizing my Franchi Affinity 3. There are some great aftermarket stocks and recoil pads that can really improve comfort. Anyone found specific brands they recommend?

The Affinity 3 has a solid selection of accessories, but the Benelli M2 also has great options, especially for chokes. You can really fine-tune your shot pattern.

I’ve heard the M2’s inertia system is incredibly reliable. Can anyone share how that impacts shooting experience?

The inertia system means less recoil felt during shooting. It’s a game changer for extended days in the field!

What about aesthetics? I think the Affinity has a sleeker look, especially with the camo options. Does anyone prioritize looks over functionality?

I say functionality over looks! But I do love a good-looking gun! Custom finishes might be a way to add flair to either option.
