CVA Hunter .44 Mag - Seeking Your Thoughts and Experiences

Looking for Feedback on the CVA Hunter .44 Mag

Hey folks,

I’m diving into the world of hunting and I’ve got my sights set on the CVA Hunter in .44 Magnum. I’m particularly interested in hearing about your personal experiences with this rifle. Whether you’ve taken it out for deer, boar, or any other game, I’d love to know:

  • Accuracy: How has it performed for you at different ranges? Any tips for sighting it in?
  • Performance: What has your experience been like in different weather conditions? Does it hold up well?
  • Ammunition Recommendations: What type of ammo do you swear by for hunting?
  • Field Experiences: Any memorable hunts with the CVA Hunter that you’d like to share?

I’m also curious about the overall build and usability. Is it heavy for carrying on long treks? How’s the recoil?

Any advice or personal stories would be greatly appreciated as I aim to make an informed decision before my next hunting trip!

Thanks in advance, everyone!

I’ve owned the CVA Hunter .44 Mag for about a year now, and the accuracy has been impressive. I can consistently hit targets at 100 yards with ease.

That’s great to hear! Have you done any specific tests for groups, and how does it handle with different loads?

I totally agree with eking! I took mine out last month and managed a sub-2-inch group at 50 yards using factory loads. The reliability is solid too; I haven’t experienced any misfires.

How does it feel in terms of recoil? I’ve been told the .44 Mag can be a bit intense.

The recoil is manageable, but you definitely feel it! I wouldn’t recommend it for beginners, though. It’s a fun shooter once you get used to it.

I’ve had mine jam on me once, but it was probably my ammo choice. Overall, it has been reliable for hunting. Just make sure to stick with quality ammunition.

That can be frustrating! Was it a specific brand of ammo, or just a fluke? I’ve been eyeing some different ammo.

It was a cheaper brand. I switched to something more reputable, and it has worked flawlessly ever since. Definitely a lesson learned!

I’ve noticed that this rifle tends to perform exceptionally well with 240 grain jacketed soft points. Anyone else have a favorite load?

I use the same! It seems to balance power and accuracy nicely.

I love mine for deer hunting! The .44 Mag delivers just the right amount of stopping power. Anyone had issues with it in the rain or wet conditions?

I’ve hunted in some light rain, and it held up well. Just make sure to clean and oil it afterward to prevent rust. Better safe than sorry!

Good to know! I might have to take mine out on a wet day just to test it out.

Haha, just don’t blame the gun if things go wrong! I’d say it’s great for most weather, as long as you maintain it. I’ve had no surprises with mine.

I’ve been tempted to get one! With all this positive feedback, it seems worth it. What’s the accuracy like at longer ranges, say 200 yards?

From my experience, it starts to spread out a bit past 150 yards, but with practice, you can still make hits at 200 yards with the right load.

That’s good to know. I’ll probably stick to hunting within 150 yards for best results.

I’m excited to see a discussion about the CVA Hunter .44 Mag! I’ve had one for about a year now, and I think it offers great value for the price. The accuracy is impressive for a break-action rifle.

That’s good to hear! How does it compare in weight to other .44 Mag firearms? I’m considering it for hunting trips and want something manageable.
