Best Mounts for 870 Red Dot Sight?

Seeking Advice on Mounting Red Dots on My Remington 870

Hey everyone! I recently picked up a Remington 870 and I’m looking to enhance my shooting experience with a red dot sight. I’ve heard a lot about the benefits of using a red dot for quicker target acquisition, especially during hunting trips or at the range.

What I’m Looking For

I’m specifically interested in:

  • Types of mounts: What mounts are compatible with the 870?
  • Installation tips: Any dos and don’ts when installing a red dot?
  • Recommendations: Which red dot sights work best with this shotgun?

My Experience So Far

I’m fairly new to shotguns and haven’t mounted a red dot before, so I’m a little anxious about making the right choice. I’ve seen some mounts that attach directly to the receiver while others connect to the barrel. What do you think is the best option?

Any Help is Appreciated

All opinions and insights are welcome! I’d love to hear from those who’ve had success with their setups. Any photos of your own 870 with a red dot would be awesome too! Thanks in advance for your help!

I’m looking into mounts for my 870, and I’ve heard the Aimpoint T2 is a great fit. It’s durable and easy to mount. Anyone else have experience with it?

I’ve used the T2 too, and I agree! It’s also very reliable under harsh conditions.

I’ve had bad luck with various mounts. I found the UTG mount often misaligned. Has anyone tried the Vortex Venom?

I have it! The co-witness with iron sights is fantastic on an 870. Perfect for quick targeting.

I prefer the Holosun series. They come with some great features for the price. Would love to compare it side by side with others.

The Holosun 507c has been a game-changer for me! What did you think of it?

I’m considering options, but I can’t decide between keeping it simple with iron sights or going with a red dot. Thoughts?

If you do get a red dot, make sure it has a solid mounting system. You won’t regret it!

For anyone looking for a budget option, the Bushnell TRS-25 works well on the 870. Reliable and affordable!

Good tip! Just be aware of the battery life; it can drain quickly if left on.

I’m interested in hearing real-world experiences. Do any of these options hold up well in rainy conditions?

The Aimpoint is waterproof, so it should perform great. Anyone had a different experience?

I’ve been using the LPVO mount with a scope on my 870. It’s a bit unconventional but works well for longer ranges.

That’s interesting! Did you notice any balance issues with the added weight?

If I can’t find a solid mount, I might just stick to iron sights. Some mounts can really shake things up!

True, but a good mount can enhance your accuracy. It’s worth the time to shop around.

I’ve heard all these brands, but at the end of the day, what’s the one you’d recommend without hesitation?

Installing the 870 red dot sight can be tricky. First, make sure you have a decent set of screwdrivers and a torque wrench. Avoid over-tightening the screws to prevent damage to the mount.

I suggest laying out all your tools before starting. It helps prevent scrambling around mid-installation!
