I’ve been using the Marlin Dark 1895 .45-70 for a couple of seasons now and it’s fantastic for hunting! The barrel length is a solid 18.5 inches which balances well, and the weight is just right for field work.

That’s great to hear! How does it perform with the recoil? I’m a bit concerned about that aspect when hunting big game.

Recoil isn’t too bad with the right ammo. I usually shoot 405 grain and it feels manageable. The dark laminate stock also helps absorb some of it.

Good to know! I’ve heard the materials used in this rifle are pretty durable. What about the finish?

The finish is matte, which is excellent for reducing glare. It’s designed for rugged environments, so it holds up well against scratches and moisture.

I love the aesthetics of the Marlin Dark 1895—it’s a rugged beauty! Has anyone taken it for target shooting as well?

I took mine to the range last week! It’s surprisingly accurate for a lever-action, and the trigger feels nice and crisp at 3-4 lbs. Definitely a fun time!

Accuracy is key for hunting! Does anyone have experience with the included sights? Are they any good for longer distances?

The sights are decent, but I swapped mine out for a scope for longer distances. The .45-70 really shines at longer ranges with the right optics.

Interesting! Does it handle the added weight of a scope without impacting balance too much?

Not at all! It still feels balanced even with a scope. Just ensure you mount it properly. I added some weight to the buttstock which helped as well.

That’s a smart tip! Does anyone feel the Marlin Dark 1895 is overpriced or is it worth the investment?

I think it’s worth it for the quality. Marlin rifles have a great reputation, and this one lives up to it! You get what you pay for, in my opinion.

Absolutely! The craftsmanship is top-notch. The wood and metal finish make it feel premium compared to others in the same price range.

What do you guys think about using it for bear hunting? I’m considering it for next season.

It’s definitely capable! Just make sure you choose the right ammo for bear. A heavy bullet will do the trick. Good luck on your hunt!

I’ve been using the Hornady LeverEvolution rounds with my 1895, and they work great for deer hunting. The ballistic tip really helps with accuracy and expansion!

I also prefer the Hornady .45-70! Just curious, have you tried the Remington Core-Lokt rounds? They seem like a solid choice too.

Hornady is certainly a top choice, but the Remingtons offer great stopping power. I’ve had excellent results with deer at reasonable distances.
