What’s the Best Hook for Flounder Fishing?

It can definitely be hit or miss! Anyone tried fishing at night? I’ve heard flounder are more active then.

Night fishing is where it’s at! Just be ready with a good headlamp! It’s one of my favorite ways to fish for them.

Sounds exciting! I’ve never tried it but I’m definitely willing to give it a shot. Any tips for beginners?

I’ve had great success flounder fishing using J-hooks. They’re sharp and penetrate well, especially with live bait like minnows or finger mullet. Make sure to choose the right size based on the bait you’re using!

Good to know! I’ve always used circle hooks, but I’m curious about the J-hooks. How do you rig them differently?

Circle hooks are fantastic too! They hook the fish in the corner of the mouth, reducing injury and making it easier to catch and release. Just ensure you let the fish take the bait for a moment before setting the hook.

Don’t forget about seasonal factors! In spring and fall, flounder are more aggressive and can often be found in shallower waters. That’s the perfect time to target them with a heavier jig and worm combo!

Exactly! In summer, I find they tend to stay deeper. Locations like tidal creeks or near structures are key spots to target at that time.

What about the gear? I usually use a 7-foot medium action rod with a 2500 series reel. It gives me enough strength to fight those flounder while keeping the sensitivity to feel bites.

That sounds solid! I think the rod makes a huge difference, especially when combined with braided line for better sensitivity.

I’ve always had fun using gulp baits! They seem to attract flounder like crazy. Anyone had luck with those?

Absolutely! Gulp baits are like a secret weapon for flounder fishing. They provide scent and taste that often trigger strikes!

Have you all tried fishing at night? I hear that’s an excellent time for flounder, especially when they’re feeding. What do you think?
