I’ve seen some people suggest using two blankets for extra protection. Does anyone have experience with that?
I tried it once, but it felt overkill! One thick blanket works just fine and gives great protection if positioned correctly.
Does anyone have a favorite brand? I’m eyeing one from a respected welding supplier but want to know if it’s worth it.
I’ve always used the Fire Retardant Pro Blanket. It holds up really well and offers excellent protection for smokers!
It’s funny how some people don’t consider the fire risk with smokers. Better safe than sorry, right? Get your blankets in order, folks!
True! Safety often gets overlooked for the sake of good BBQ. Make it a priority!
I’m glad to see this topic! I’ve learned so much already. How about we all share before-and-after pics of our smokers with our blankets?
I’ve been using the Fire Retardant Welding Blanket from Miller for a while now, and it’s been great for my smoker! It handles the heat really well and protects everything around it.
That blanket sounds promising! I just worried about how easily these can wear out. Have you had any issues with durability?
I didn’t have good luck with the 3M welding blanket. It got discolored after a few uses and didn’t seem to do a great job at protecting my surfaces. I switched to a cheaper option that works better!
Thanks for the heads-up! I was actually considering that one. What cheaper option did you end up going with?
I highly recommend the Revco Black Stallion blanket. It’s versatile and holds up really well against smoke and heat. Plus, it’s not too heavy to move around!
I’ve heard good things about Revco too! But are there any downsides? Sometimes heavier doesn’t work for mobile setups.
That’s a good point. I often have to move my smoker, so portability is key for me as well.
I agree with you—I use the Lincoln Electric blanket, and it’s relatively light and portable! It’s great for both welding and smoking, plus very affordable.
Nice! I will look into that one. My budget is tight, and affordable options are a must for me right now.
Has anyone tried those water-resistant blankets? I found one online but I’m not sure if it’s worth the investment for smoking.
I haven’t, but I’m also curious! Smokers can get moist, so they might actually help keep everything dry.
I’ve had a water-resistant one, but it didn’t hold up under high heat! Wish I would have known before risking my setup. Stick with heat-resistant for sure.
That’s disappointing! It sounds like heat resistance is definitely the priority for a welder’s blanket.
