Looking for Feedback on the Winchester Model 70 Featherweight

I do! The safety is straightforward, but it might take some getting used to for those who have been using other models for years.

In terms of aesthetics, I find the Featherweight absolutely charming. It has a classic look that other synthetic-stock rifles lack.

True! But sometimes I wonder if the wood requires too much maintenance compared to synthetics?

It’s a bit more upkeep, but I find it rewarding. Plus, who doesn’t enjoy showing off a beautiful rifle?

Beauty is subjective, I suppose! But I think most hunters appreciate a rifle that performs as good as it looks.

Hear, hear! Mainly, how does it shoot? Grouping at the range?

I’ve had my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight for a few years now, and it’s my go-to rifle for deer hunting. The accuracy is exceptional with factory loads, and I love the lightweight design for long treks.

Absolutely! I found that adding a match-grade barrel made a significant difference in consistent accuracy. It can be a bit pricey, but worth it if you shoot often.

What optic have you guys found works best? I’m considering getting a Leupold, but I want to make sure it’ll pair well with the Featherweight’s mounting system.

Leupold is a solid choice! I use a VX-3i and it fits perfectly. Lightweight and offers great clarity for low-light conditions, which is a big plus during dawn and dusk hunts.

Does anyone have experience with aftermarket triggers for the Featherweight? I’m looking to improve the trigger feel but worry about losing that classic touch.

I opted for a Timney trigger, and it was a game-changer! Much smoother pull while maintaining that vintage feel. Highly recommend it, especially for precise shooting applications.

Good tips, everyone! I picked up my Featherweight last fall and really enjoy its balance. Are there any recommendations for slings that work well with it?

Definitely check out the Butler Creek slings—they’re both comfortable and durable! I’ve used one for a couple of seasons now, and it’s held up nicely.

I love the Featherweight for its feel, but I’ve found the recoil can be a bit much with certain calibers. Anyone taken measures to mitigate this?

That’s a great point! I added a LimbSaver recoil pad, and it made shooting much more pleasant. It’s a small modification that pays off big time!

Anyone else feel like the stock finish could be better? Mine shows wear pretty quickly. Would upgrading the finish help with durability?

I hear you. I’ve thought about re-staining mine, but I’m wary of affecting the value. Any thoughts on what finishes are safe?

I’ve had the opposite experience! The stock has held up much better than I expected. Maybe I got lucky with the wood grain! Do any of you go for synthetic stocks? Just wondering about the trade-offs.
