DIY Homemade A-Frame Blind for Waterfowl Hunting: Tips & Tricks

I wonder how long before the season starts we should set up the blind? Should we let the area settle, or can we set it up right before we hunt?

Good question! I usually set my A-frame up a week or so in advance, so the birds get used to seeing it over time. This may help reduce their hesitation upon approach.

True! And a good sense of humor helps too. I’ve practically been a statue waiting for the ducks to show!

I think there’s a balance. Sometimes too much concealment causes more issue than it helps. Keep things comfortable for yourself while still being hidden.

Slightly contentious point: I’ve seen hunters argue about setting up at dawn versus earlier. I’m all for scouting at dawn, which seems less intrusive.

Dawn scouting is essential but consider the sound! If you’re too loud, you might scare off the birds before you even start. Always tread lightly.

I can definitely relate! A good coffee in hand while you wait goes a long way too. What’s everyone’s favorite hunting snack?
