What’s the Best .308 Ammo for Deer Hunting?

I’m gearing up for deer season and I’m looking to hone in on the best .308 ammunition out there. I’ve been doing some reading, but I’d love to hear from those of you with hands-on experience.

Key Considerations

When choosing the best ammo for deer hunting, there are a few factors that I think are essential:

  • Bullet Type: Should I go for soft points, hollow points, or maybe something more specialized like ballistic tip rounds?
  • Weight: What weight range has worked best for you? I’ve seen recommendations ranging from 150 to 180 grains.
  • Brand Reliability: Are there specific brands that have shown better performance in the field?

My Experience So Far

I’ve tried a couple of brands, but I want to make sure I’m using what’s most effective. Last year, I used some basic soft points, but I feel like I could improve my accuracy and knockdown power.

Call for Recommendations

If you have first-hand experience with certain brands or types, please share! I’m particularly interested in any ammunition that might offer good expansion combined with accuracy at ranges of up to 200 yards.

Thanks in advance for your help! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
