New Mexico has some great spots for hog hunting! The southeastern region around Roswell is particularly good. I’ve had success near the Pecos River area as well.

I completely agree! The area around Ruidoso is also a hidden gem. The mountains provide excellent opportunities for spotting and stalking.

Don’t forget about the BLM land near the Gila National Forest! Lots of open space and good access to hog populations. Just be sure to check the regulations first!

That’s a great point! Also, I’ve had luck near Animas. The terrain is challenging but rewarding!

I haven’t had much luck in Animas, but I heard the area around Clovis can be decent for hogs due to the agricultural landscape. Has anyone hunted there?

Yes! Clovis is great! Just get there early for the best chance. Hogs can be pretty skittish during the day.

I’ve heard mixed reviews on hog hunting in New Mexico. Some say it’s hit or miss. What do you think is the best time of year to target them?

I think early spring is fantastic! The cooler weather draws them out more, and you can get lucky with some herd activity in the evenings.

Absolutely! And if you’re looking for a laugh, bring some cheap snacks; I swear they come running for chips! Just a tip based on my last hunt!

That’s hilarious! I’ll definitely be bringing snacks next time, thanks! Anyway, does anyone have tips on how to prepare after a successful hunt?

I usually like to process them myself—makes for a great bonding activity with friends too! But it’s a bit of a learning curve.

Hey, make sure you check out the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish website. They have all the info on permits, hunting seasons, and any specific rules about hog hunting. It’s really thorough!

Great tip! I’m also curious about how to handle the meat if you actually catch one. Any suggestions for processing it legally?

Definitely check the law on that. From what I know, it’s legal to process your own game in New Mexico, but there might be specific regulations regarding where you can do it.

I read somewhere that you also need to report your hog harvest. Can anyone confirm if that’s true?

Yes! New Mexico has reporting requirements for big game, including feral hogs. Make sure you record your kill and submit it correctly to stay compliant with wildlife regulations.

That sounds very serious! Can anyone tell me how often the seasons are? I want to plan my trips accordingly.

The seasons for hog hunting can vary, but generally, it’s often year-round in many areas. Just make sure to verify the specific zone you plan to hunt in!

I love the idea of hunting year-round! But are there any restrictions on the type of firearms or equipment we can use?
