Looking for Feedback on 300 Blackout Complete Upper 16 Inch Barrel Choices

Seeking Your Opinions on 300 Blackout Complete Uppers

I’m considering upgrading my AR-15 setup for hunting and target shooting purposes and have been particularly drawn to 300 Blackout complete uppers with a 16-inch barrel. I’d love to get some insights from the community about what options might be the best.

Why 300 Blackout?

The 300 Blackout round has been gaining popularity for its versatility, especially when paired with a good upper. It’s fantastic for both close-quarters and longer-range shooting, making it appealing for various outdoor activities. But with so many choices on the market, I find myself a bit overwhelmed.

My Requirements

Here’s what I’m looking for in a complete upper:

  • Durability: I plan on using this for outdoor conditions, so ruggedness is key.
  • Performance: I want a setup that maximizes the effectiveness of the round, especially for hunting.
  • Price: While I’m willing to invest, I still want to ensure that I’m getting value.

Questions for the Community

  • What brands do you recommend? I’ve seen options from companies like Daniel Defense and PSA, but I’d love to hear about others you trust.

I really appreciate any feedback you can provide! Whether it’s positive experiences, negative reviews, or just general advice, I’m all ears. Let’s help each other make informed choices about our setups!

I’ve been using a 300 Blackout upper with a 16-inch barrel, and I love the versatility. It’s surprisingly accurate, especially with supersonic loads. In my experience, it performs well even in windy conditions.

That’s great to hear, icooper! I’ve noticed similar results with heavy varmint rounds. The accuracy is spot on at 100 yards, but I wonder how it handles beyond that.

The 16-inch barrel definitely enhances the round’s performance. I usually run it with both subsonic and supersonic ammo, and the difference is noticeable in accuracy and recoil. It’s enjoyable to shoot!

I completely agree, bakersamantha! Do you find that subsonic rounds are quieter than other setups? My buddies say it feels like I’m shooting a .22.

I’ve shot mine in both rain and shine, and it has held up beautifully. My favorite result was with a mixed magazine of various ammo types, which surprisingly all fed without issues.

Watching my buddy shoot subsonic on his 16-inch upper was like watching a silent movie—so quiet! But I also wonder how effective it is for home defense. Anyone have thoughts?

Subsonic offers decreased sonic crack, but if I had to choose for home defense, I’d trust a supersonic load. The terminal ballistics are better, and you won’t risk over-penetration as much with proper choices.

Interesting point, rnguyen! But wouldn’t subsonic be better for reduced noise? I’m always torn on which way to go.

My barrel has been very consistent with accuracy at 100 and 200 yards. I mostly shoot factory rounds, but I’m thinking about handloading for more precision. Anyone handloaders in this discussion?

Handloading allows you to fine-tune your rounds significantly, emily57! I’ve seen great improvements, especially in groups at longer distances. What powders are you considering?

A buddy of mine had a complete disaster with his upper in wet conditions; had to clean it a lot! I wish I could say the same for mine, but the finish has held up perfectly so far.

Wow! Sounds like your buddy had a tough time! That said, I’m impressed with how mine functions even after a muddy range day. Might have to reassure him about maintenance tips!

At the end of the day, it’s about how involved you want to be in maintenance—300 Blackout seems to be notably forgiving. Overall, it’s a fun platform to shoot and experiment with!

I have to laugh; shooting this upper is like going on a date—sometimes it performs great, other times you just wish it behaved better! Overall? I’d still recommend it.

No kidding, nflynn! Relationships with firearms are truly an adventure! Each outing reveals something new, just like getting to know someone. I appreciate hearing everyone’s insights on this.

I’ve had experience with a few brands and found that the Aero Precision 300 Blackout upper fit my PSA lower perfectly. The build quality is solid, but I did have to tweak the gas block a bit.

That’s interesting! I’ve read that some brands can be hit or miss. What other uppers have you tried, and did you face any compatibility issues?

I’ve been looking at Palmetto State Armory as a budget option. I’d love to hear if anyone has faced assembly issues with their uppers! How’s the quality?

PSA uppers are generally good value. I haven’t had assembly issues, but I did have to check the barrel nut for proper torque.
